A Dedicated Partner: The Home Depot Foundation

As we considered the monumental task of marshaling support to build the largest Veteran housing community in the nation, our first call went to our dedicated teammates at The Home Depot Foundation. As U.S.VETS’ first building partner, The Home Depot Foundation has invested in every single supportive housing development and just about every single site improvement and beautification project that U.S.VETS has undertaken nationwide. The Home Depot Foundation has also been a dedicated partner to development of Century Housing’s Villages at Cabrillo—a model for the West LA VA community for homeless and at-risk Veterans.

We were thrilled when The Home Depot Foundation saw our vision and signed on as the first partner of the Veterans Promise Campaign with a lead gift of $3 million to support pre-development and construction of Building 300, the main supportive service and well-being hub on campus; Building 13, our beautiful community Town Hall; Building 210, which will provide housing preference to female Veterans; and Building 256, which is adjacent to our historic walk, recognizing the generations of brave Veterans whose sacrifice we honor every day.

“We were pleased to support U.S.VETS and The Veterans Collective’s work to build the nation’s largest supportive housing community for Veterans and families on the West LA VA North Campus,” said Heather Prill, director of The Home Depot Foundation. “They share our commitment to uplift our nation’s heroes through housing.”

The Home Depot Foundation reached its lofty philanthropic commitment to Veterans ahead of schedule in 2024, investing half a billion dollars into the Veteran community, thanks to the work of the Foundation, as well as Team Depot, which brings The Home Depot associates around the globe together through volunteerism and service.

“U.S.VETS is proud to partner with The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot whose shared values have helped us realize our vision of empowering veterans and their families and whose generosity has supported innovative solutions that move the needle,” said U.S.VETS CEO Stephen J. Peck. “We share a deep commitment to ending Veteran homelessness and serving those who served our country.”

In keeping with their motto “How Doers Get More Done,” The Home Depot Foundation is doing even more – increasing its goal to $750 million in support for Veterans by 2030. “With more than 35,000 of our own associates who are Veterans, ending Veteran homelessness is a cause that is near and dear to us,” said Prill.
