TVC Secures $105 Million in State Financing, Tax Credits for Next Phase of Veteran Housing

The Veterans Collective, a partnership to develop the nation’s largest supportive housing community for Veterans experiencing homelessness, has announced it has received $105 million in tax-exempt bond financing from the State of California along with low-income housing tax credits that will be used to deliver more than 250 additional units of housing and kickstart the construction of a Town Center on the North Campus of the West Los Angeles VA campus.

The latest round of funding enables The Veterans Collective to further contribute to the development of over 1,200 units of affordable housing for Veterans and their families at the historic VA campus. The master-planned North Campus development will serve as a vibrant and therapeutic community to serve, heal and house as many as 3,000 Veterans and their families. Through these new housing projects – VA Buildings 256, 408 and 409 – The Veterans Collective will continue to serve Veterans across the continuum of care and offer critical community-serving amenities including case management, vocational training, behavioral health services, arts and recreation, and community events and initiatives.

“Our commitment to Veterans is steadfast. The recently announced financing helps ensure that the Veterans Collective will be able to continue delivering housing, community, and critical services to Veterans at the West LA VA,” said Parisa Roshan, senior project manager at Thomas Safran & Associates, which along with Century Housing and U.S.VETS are partners in the North Campus community housing project.

“The North Campus is bustling – with more than 450 units completed and actively being leased to Veterans and over 325 units under construction,” said Paige O’Donnell, associate director for housing at Century Housing. “TVC is proud to have secured this next round of funding that enables us to start construction later this year on even more homes for Veterans.”

This project is the largest Veteran housing development in the United States, committing more than $1 billion in public and private funds to provide housing solutions and services to homeless and at-risk Veterans in the Greater Los Angeles area.

The North Campus is fulfilling a critical need for service-enriched housing that promotes recovery, wellness, and a more hopeful future. Current estimates show there are 3,000 Veterans experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County.
