We’re halfway there! TVC celebrates milestone and 5 new buildings starting construction; Wells Fargo ups their commitment to Veteran housing
The Veterans Collective has reached a momentous milestone in building the nation’s largest supportive housing community for Veterans — the halfway mark!
TVC, a partnership between Century Housing, Thomas Safran & Associates and U.S.VETS, alongside the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System and The Core Companies, recently broke ground on five new buildings that will provide housing and services to Veterans and their families at the West LA VA North Campus. A special event on June 27 celebrated the progress on the master community plan and recognized more than half of the 1,200 planned units are already finished or under construction.
With a construction site providing an inspiring backdrop for the ceremony, partners and dignitaries shared details of the new construction phase along with their ongoing dedication to serving those who served.
Congressman Brad Sherman, District 32 and Congressman Ted Lieu, District 36, United States House of Representatives, expressed their continued support and presented an American flag to Veteran Ernest McFadden. The once-homeless Veteran now lives in Building 207, which opened in January 2023.
Gregg Sherkin of Wells Fargo announced their increased commitment to $2 million toward the development of Veteran housing and supportive services on the North Campus.
Also participating in the program was Lindsey Sin, California Department of Veterans Affairs; Lourdes Castro Ramirez, Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency for the State of California; Emilio Salas, Los Angeles County Development Authority; Debbie Burkart, National Equity Fund; Ron Griffith, Century Housing; and Dr. Steven Braverman, Department of Veterans Affairs. Renowned architect and Army Veteran Frank Gehry, who designed Building 402, was also in attendance.
Building for the future
The five new buildings—404, 402, 156, 157 and 401—will provide 374 new homes for Veterans and their families. In addition, the five new communities will offer extensive supportive services, such as counseling services and case management, and amenities including gyms, laundry rooms and community spaces for watching TV, cooking or playing pool. Buildings 404, 157 and 156 (Century Housing) and 402 (Thomas Safran & Associates) are four of 20 planned Veteran housing and supportive service buildings being developed by TVC, while The Core Companies has begun the first stage of development on MacArthur Field with Building 401. Each building will offer unique features and design elements.

With each completed building, we’re moving a step closer to transforming the West LA VA North Campus into a thriving community. The ongoing development of these residences wouldn’t be possible without our generous donors and dedicated partners who’ve made significant investments in our Veterans Promise Campaign: Barings, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, California Department of Housing and Community Development, California Housing Finance Agency, Cedars-Sinai, Federal Home Loan Bank, Los Angeles County Development Authority, National Equity Fund, MetLife Foundation, SGC, Tunnel To Towers Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation, and Wells Fargo.
